Since when was putting a hand on someone a foul?
A lot of what I have read and heard in the media since yesterday is that it was a definite penalty as Song put his hand on Kane. Is this a foul?

I thought that pushing and pulling was a foul but this is allowed all the time from corners and no one falls over but put a hand on someone in automatic play, down they go, and it is a foul.

It is not just the Kane example but there are a lot others as well. Would these cunts fall over if you put your hand on their shoulder in the pub?

Probably been siad but the wider issue is referees and interpretation of the rules. If players know that something isn't a foul then they will be less likely to dive to try and win a penalty. IMO.

Sniper.
It's actually a non-contact sport...

Re: Since when was putting a hand on someone a foul?
It was a blatent dive if you watch carefully, Kane flicks out his left leg hoping for contact. It's funny as I still play once a week but I insist we play old school rules, we probably give one free kick in the hour, makes for a much better game...

Frankly given what goes on in the box at every corner in every game, I think it's a joke to give such a soft penalty.
Kane is the media lovechild of the moment though so he can't do anything wrong. As for the comments about our second being offside, they are laughable.

Restating an old truth?

Remove the claret and blue specs and you won't find many people who don't think it was a penalty.

Lots of players go down easily to win penalties - sometimes when they have been fouled and sometimes when they haven't. The latter is a blight on the game but I'm afraid this incident is a case of the former.

For me, the much bigger issue is why the ref played 7 minutes of injury time and allowed Kane to slot home the rebound, when the laws of the game explicitly instruct that he shouldn't have.

According to the laws of the game it is not a foul to put your hand on a player. The ex pros and assorted media divs who repeat that it is on an almost continual loop are talking out of their arses.

Surely anyone who seen the incident on telly (different to being at the game as people have different "leanings"/views etc) couldn't argue about a penalty being given - especially given the position of the ref. IN REAL TIME.

Re: Since when was putting a hand on someone a foul?
Kane did gratefully go to ground.

Song was guilty of making a clumsy challenge, but not enough to warrant a penalty.
He should have known better than to do what he did, though. Cresswell had the situation covered.

That amount of contact wouldn't be enough to knock over my 2 year old daughter. In fact, she quite possibly wouldn't even notice.

And yet, a professional athlete tumbled to the floor with the sole intention of getting a penalty.

THAT is what is wrong with the game.

"There is zero doubt he tried to get the contact and zero doubt that by the time it came he was already at 45 degrees and going to hit the floor 0.2 seconds later. "

No one could argue with that level of precision in real time. You're absolutely bang on Paulo!

It's a game for ballet dancers and poofs nowadays. "Ooh, he looked at me funny, I must throw myself to the ground!"

Wankers.

t's not this incident, but credit to Lineker for calling out Rooney the other day, when Hodgson was in the studio with him. As for our game, possibly a foul, but Kane went down like he'd hit a trip wire. The ref bottled it.

Song had a slight tug. He did not push or trip the special needed one.

Unfortunately, it looked like a tug. Of course he shouldn't have gone down, and it probably wasn't done with enough force to pull him down but at the same time, it was a tug so Song has to take full responsibility for the foul.

'Winning' a penalty is just a turn of phrase.

It's been used many times before when a player has been poleaxed in the box.

Re: Since when was putting a hand on someone a foul?
I read that kane "won" a penalty.

So what does that mean?

How can you win a penalty. Really it can only mean played for or sought, and got a penalty. The same as cheating. No journos mention this though.

Re: Since when was putting a hand on someone a foul?

There is absolutely nothing in the laws of the game which states that the contact must be sufficient to knock a player over:

"Trips or attempts to trip an opponent"
"Pushes an opponent"

Song clearly pushed and tripped Kane, therefore it was a penalty.

Instead of blaming Kane for going down, perhaps we should ask why players need to go down to be awarded a penalty.

I remember the days when you had to practically murder a player before you got a penalty, now you get one if you breathe a bit too hard on a player
